Florida Flora

Florida flora with a bird.

I have never considered myself a Florida person.

I love mountains; oceans don’t do it for me.

However, I have always loved plants.

When I was young, we lived in a new subdivision.
I pined for the other side of town where there were tree tunnels.

The glory of California, except for the sun, is lost on me. The plants are spikey and mean looking.

But I am beginning to like Florida.
I don’t know what all of these are, but aren’t they spectacular!

p.s. The bird is at the bottom…

  1. Lovely photos. I’ve never thought about Florida being “spikey” before, but I suppose you’re right. I’m glad you’re finding beauty in your surroundings.

On behalf of California’s spectacular scenery & foliage, I take umbrage. However, since California already suffers from overpopularity (and therefore overpopulation!), you’re forgiven for not finding the Golden State to your liking. šŸ™‚
I have no idea what the plants are, but the bird is a white ibis – a bird which is not, alas, found in California. Though the equally lovely white-FACED ibis is. http://birds.audubon.org/species/whiibi2 Two fascinating birds with boring, unimaginative names!

Hi Cat. You make me laugh. I notice you don’t live in California either! Ten years were enough for me – when the earthquake hit and the chimney collapsed, that was a sign. I had some spectacular days there, but the only vegetation I really loved was the orange groves. The smell in late winter was heaven…
